In April, Structec Quality & Performance Manager Geoff Davies completed the London Marathon in aid of The Whitechapel Centre in Liverpool, a local good cause. The Centre provides support to rough sleepers and other vulnerable people at risk of homelessness in Merseyside, and therefore is an extremely valuable organisation for the local community and those less fortunate. Structec has provided assistance for The Centre in the past, which included carrying out essential repairs and maintenance, and organising shoe and trainer collections to donate to those in need of them. This made it a very suitable cause for Geoff to choose.
In collecting money for sponsorship, Structec asked suppliers and subcontractors for donations, all of whom were incredibly generous in giving money for such a good cause. Furthermore, they ran an internal ‘Guess the Time’ event, in which participants would pay for a chance to guess Geoff’s final marathon time, with all proceeds going to the cause. A grand total of £1,507 was raised and donated by Structec staff, suppliers and subcontractors.
Geoff Davies commented:
‘I was extremely surprised by the fantastic response to the request for sponsorship of my final marathon, and would like to give huge thanks to all contributors for their generosity towards such a good cause.’
Structec would like to extend its thanks to Geoff, without whom this would not have been possible, and congratulate him on his excellent final marathon time of 3 hours and 47 minutes.
